The Getty Research Project

I had the pleasure to be part of this project with so many talented individuals:
The Getty Research Institute Los Angeles graffiti blackbook - Liber Amicorum -

Now viewable online.
See the entire book here.
The volume contains 143 works on paper by leading Los Angeles graffiti and tattoo artists. Inspired by Johann Heinrich Gruber's 17th-century liber amicorum (or "book of friends") and the black sketch books (or "piecebooks") that many street artists carry with them and inscribe for each other, the LA Liber Amicorum showcases the hand-styles of more than 100 "writers." Originally created on loose sheets of paper, the artworks by rival crews of street artists were bound into a single Los Angeles "book of friends" that brings together the unique letter-forms, characters and themes that represent the regionally and culturally diverse landscape of graffiti and tattoo art in Los Angeles.
Stats: 1 volume (143 leaves) : mixed media ; 32 x 50 cm

Prototype Revisited

"The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over."

Per Nicole, a look back of sorts...
“Los Angeles, give me some of you! Los Angeles
come to me the way I came to you, my feet over
your streets, you pretty town I loved you so much,
you sad flower in the sand, you pretty town!” JF
